Pondoland Brands is a manufacturing operation that was founded in 2010 by owner, Phil Makabane. The business started as a small maize milling operation in the rural outskirts of Mangquzu location in the Eastern Cape region.

​In starting Pondoland Brands, Phil’s vision was to bring food closer to the people of his community, in an efficient, cheap and convenient manner. To do this he began as tiny milling operation in his mother’s garden and supplied maize based products locally. The company grew over time and today is supplying Retail and Wholesale stores across South Africa.

Today the organisation has operations in Eastern Cape, Kwazulu Natal and Gauteng Provinces and is home to 56 employees.
